CARING FOR YOUR LIPS

Before care:

What to avoid and what to expect

Before Care:

  • 1 year prior: Accutane usage
  • 1 month prior: Electrolysis treatments, Dermal fillers in the lips, AHA skincare products, Retin A or Retinal around the lip area and chemical peels
  • 2 weeks prior: waxing or laser hair removal around the lip
  • 1 week prior: Make sure you moisturize your lips well every day for at least 7 days prior to your procedure. We advise drinking plenty of water to avoid lips drying out and to help with the healing process.
  • 24-48 hours prior: Do not consume any blood thinners (this includes alcohol, caffeine,
    Ibuprofen and Asprin)
  • We suggest using a lip scrub before your procedure to achieve better results. If lips are
chapped, we will not be able to perform the lip blushing service.
  • NOTE: If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) we advise you to use anti-
herpes medication (for example Zovirax ointment). Use the medication 5 days prior and 5 days after your enhancement 5 times a day to reduce the
incidence of outbreak by 50%. Oral anti-herpes medication (available by prescription) will control the incidence of an outbreak more or less completely. Micropigmentation does not cause cold sores, however, if you carry the virus, it lays dormant in the nervous system and can be aroused by the treatment process.

What to expect:

  • The healing process is about 7 days but lips need special care for about 2 weeks.
  • Lips will soften about 40%-50%
  • Day 1-2: Swelling, redness, mild pain and tenderness.
  • Days 3-5: Mild pain, swelling redness and tenderness. Itching, scabbing and dry flakey
skin is common. Remember, your lips will be strongly colored and sharply defined for 3
  •  7 days after your appointment.

AFTER CARE:

POST TREATMENT & long Term care

After Care:

What to avoid for 5-7 days post treatment:

  • Makeup applied close to your lips,
  • Sweating, Steamy showers or hot baths,
  • Splashing water on your face, kissing, etc.
  • Touching food and fluids to lips when possible

What to avoid for 2 weeks post treatment:

  • Spray tans, Tanning beds, sunbathing and
    direct sun
  • Swimming pools, saunas, jacuzzis, oceans, lakes, etc.
  • Beauty treatments near your lips such as waxing, electrolysis and laser hair removal,
  • Direct shower spray
  • Picking or rubbing lips
  • Cleanse Lips 2-3 times a day for at least 5 days or until healed and scabbing has completed. Cleanse by dabbing lips with damp cotton pads and then patting with a dry tissue or cotton pad.
  • Apply a new layer of aftercare ointment after every cleanse and in between if needed.
  • Drink through a straw for 5 days or until scabbing has concluded.
  • Be cautious with food and make sure food does not touch the treated area for 5 days
or until scabbing has concluded. Try to avoid extremely spicy or salty foods for this period as this would likely affect the healing process and pigment retention.
  • Apply healing ointment before brushing your teeth or getting in the shower to avoid
getting the healing area contaminated or wet for 5 days or until scabbing has concluded.
  • Do not touch lips for 5 days or until scabbing has concluded.
  • If cold sores appear, stop using aftercare ointment on cold-sore affected area and use a special ointment for cold sores.

Stress, poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption and failure to follow the aftercare guidance can all contribute to poor healing.

Long Term Care:

  • Lip balm with an SPF will elongate the life of you lip blushing
  • If you are planning a chemical peel, laser procedure or an MRI scan, please inform the technician of your micro-pigmentation enhancement.
